LavaTM Liquid Embolic Device is used to treat both aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations( the abnormal growing together for arteries and veins forming a web-like mass). The LavaTM liquid is injected through a catheter into the affected area of the brain where it begins to solidify, blocking the flow of blood to the damaged area so the AVM or aneurysm can be surgically removed.
LavaTM liquid embolic device is a type of embolic agent used in neurointerventions to occlude small blood vessels in the brain. Unlike other embolic agents that are pre-formed or ready-to-use, it is a liquid that can be injected through a micro-catheter into the blood vessel that needs to be sealed. Once it is in the vessel, it solidifies and occludes the vessel, creating a permanent blockage. It is made of biocompatible material that helps avoid adverse reactions in the patient. Furthermore, since it does not require a preformed shape. It can be molded and adapted to the size and shape of the lesion being treated, creating better precision and filling more complex vascular spaces. Lava liquid embolic device is available in 12, 18 and 34. A lower viscosity formulation(Lava 12) is preferred when the microcatheter cannot be advanced any closer to the lesion and the target area is still too far away from the microcatheter tip. The lower viscosity and slower copolymerization time allow the liquid embolic agent to flow deeper, reaching more distal areas of the lesion.
Features & Advantages
1. There is no theoretical risk of the microcatheter becoming clogged or stuck because it is non-adhesive material.
2. Comprehensive viscosity is available in 12, 18 and 34.
3. More fluidness makes it deeper penetration and dispersion into the nidus and distal microvessels.
4. Stable and controlled delivery to reach target embolism.
5. The micronized grain size of Tantalum powder enables a slower precipitation of the radiopaque powder which stays longer in the Lava suspension.
